Pros
1. CE Grade Armour – Not only are there four pieces of hard armour included with this jacket, but they cover quite a large span. The elbow pads reach half way up the triceps, and half way down the forearms. The shoulders pads are comfortably shaped, and can be easily adjusted or removed. Add your own back armour, and it’ll be like a tank!
2. Comfortable & Warm – On the motorway, this jacket protected me surprisingly well from wind chill. It isn’t overly heavy, and won’t make you stuffy or overheated either. The soft inner lining and knitted cuffs mean it can be worn comfortably when you jump off the bike too, as a fitted bomber jacket.
3. Plenty Of Pockets – Am I the only one who needs more and more storage space every time I go for a ride? This jacket had me covered, no probs! With seven good-sized pockets, all of which are waterproof, I had no worries as to where to stash my valuables.
4. Well Stitched Up – The stitches join together the seams tightly, and are unexposed for the most part. This adds to the abrasion resistance of the textile mesh material used on the rest of the jacket’s outer layer.
Cons
1. Not For Everyone – Some items of riding gear are suitable for anyone’s shape. This is not one of them. Although it comes in sizes up to 3XL, I don’t think it’s befitting for certain builds. The stretch panels can be unforgiving, and the jacket can ride up on the lower back area. In this case, it would become unsafe, as flesh would be exposed.
2. Slightly Restrictive – Layers worn underneath the Spada Air F2 will have to be thin, and kept to a minimum. It’s fitted design is a bit limiting in that sense, and I found it difficult to slide a backpack over the armour.
So, what's the verdict?
The Spada Air F2 is a finely made and highly respectable jacket. It’s impact resistant, abrasion resistant, and waterproof – 3 extremely important features. Fundamentally, this jacket gives you all you need in terms of safety, and then some!
The style is subjective, but in my opinion, it speaks volumes for an understated appearance. I think if it sits comfortably on your body shape, it’s a definitively cool style reminiscent of the old fur-collared flight jackets worn by pilots. Since it’s available in two colours, one being neutral black, you can undoubtedly wear it alongside any of the gear you already own.
Though it might not be for everybody, the Spada Air F2 is a jacket I’d be proud to flaunt. A good look, and even better protection!
